It's past midnight and it's technically Halloween. But I'll include this short update tonight because it's obvious my life is really hanging by a thread. Tonight my father suffered from a heartattack and I just got home about an hour ago from the Emergency Room. Today started off as a a relatively normal day as I went to see the Ear Nose Throat Specialist for some more testing on my ears first thing this morning. Then I went to run a couple of errands before heading home to meet Jane for lunch. Then Jane had the pleasure of accompanying me on a few other errands before we headed to the mall to check out some shoes. A girl can never have enough shoes you know. But I'll talk about that in another entry. I got home by dinner time and since everyone ate already, I took a quick shower only to come out to find my dad not feeling so great. He's been experiencing chest pains for the past couple months but within these past 2 weeks, he's been getting them more frequently and more serious with each time. After talking to the doctor's assistant - she recommended we do a 911. I could hear the sirens coming from miles away and I knew they were heading for my house. It's odd to think that way - when you know it's coming for you. Your home. Your cause. The firetruck and paramedics were the first to pull up and began administering medical attention to my dad who was extremely pale and was clutching at his chest. After about another 5 minutes, the ambulance arrived. I'm surprised none of the neighbors came out to look or to see what was happening because my driveway was lit up like some Broadway musical by the lights of the sirens. They needed someone to ride with my dad to the hospital - so I took the front seat of the ambulance and rode with the driver to the hospital. Now I know what it feels like to ride in one of those things and stopping traffic in all directions. What a rush. The driver was a Filipino guy who was exactly my age and we struck up conversation to keep my mind off of the current one in the back of the ambulance. I felt numb. Unfeeling. Cold. I can't explain why. Perhaps I just sat there not believing everything that was happening in my life - especially during this past week and a half. When will it all pass? I'm out. |
