slipping : may 10

starburst in the trees

I had a pretty bad Tuesday. In one simple sentence: I slipped in the shower stall at the gym and landed on my tailbone. Being around water all my life, I'm really careful about walking in it and tend to take dainty steps to make sure my footing is solid. But there in that 4'x6' shower stall, I must have stepped on some baby oil camouflaged in the water puddles and absolutely lost my footing. And since I was going down without anything to hold onto, it might as well be the fleshiest part of me - my ass. So with full force, I ended up on my tailbone with my legs spread eagle because that's the best way to fall as to not knock my bad knee against hard tiles. Unfortunately, I didn't think that my skeletal frame would rattle as it did when I hit that wet floor though.

I'm definitely not 21 anymore.

I promptly got up and got dressed and filed a report at the front. But when I got home, my shoulders ached, my lower back ached, my spine ached. Fuck. Everything ached. And I also have that big allergy test the next day, which requires me to NOT take any type of medicine the night before the test. Just my shitty luck.

By nightfall, I noticed subtle bruising at the point of contact and before 8pm, I had downed two 800mg ibuprofen just for good measure. Man, I cannot believe shit like that happens on the day before a very important test. Someone up there doesn't like me. Or more accurately, someone down here doesn't like me to be using all that baby oil shit in the shower and leaving fuckin whammies like that for the rest of us.

I don't think achey even describes what I felt because literally my entire spine and adjacent bones shook like some LA earthquake. Ugh. I'm feeling a bit better (still sore though) today probably because I've been working out and keeping my muscles and joints flexible so hopefully that will help me recover sooner. But I'll still see my doctor this morning just to make sure I didn't fracture anything in this old body of mine.

<5 hours later>

Alrighty, I'm back. Doctor pointed out the bruising and said I was lucky I didn't break my tailbone, which would have been very possible. Gave me some pain killers and told me to take it easy until I feel back to normal again. So I guess someone is taking care of me up there even if the ones down here aren't. :P

...

I'm really not looking forward to tomorrow's testing because of how it makes me feel after the injections are inserted. My arm right now looks like a swarm of locusts came down and savaged it. Looks like no short sleeves for awhile because I think I freaked out a bunch of people today while wearing short sleeves. The all think it's a tribute to Hellraiser or the beginnings of some tribal tattoo.

Anyway, I got some news today from my dad's cardiologist and it seems like my dad will be going back to do another angiogram next Wednesday because they found something abnormal in his heart after some post operation testing. At least this time, we know about it in advance and so we shouldn't be as frazzled. Nonetheless, let's hope they can fix whatever they find.

Isn't life funny? Sometimes it's a roller coaster and other times it's as boring as Highway 15 on the way to Vegas.

Gotta rest. More ugly arm pictures after tomorrow's session.

I'm out.
