My
weekends are usually not very busy but this one has been rather
hectic and combined with my recent bouts of insomnia, I was extremely
exhausted. But I woke up early today after I got home at 1am last
night to get ready for a baby shower down in Mission Viejo. Thinking
that it would actually be great down there to get away from the
heat in LA County, I was so disappointed to feel the crazy temps
affecting the nice coastal regions down there too. Boo.

The
baby shower today was a Luau themed thought of by who else, me!
;) Afterall, any party with a bit of Hawaiian flair to it is bound
to make things more relaxed and fun. Everyone was to arrive in Aloha
wear (which meant a tshirt and shorts for me). I have to admit that
there were some really loud Aloha shirts modeled by the guests there
today but it was really a fun to see everyone get into the spirit
of things.

First
thing this morning, I set off to pick up the tasty Chinese whipped
cream cake and then swung over to The Loft to pick up our catering
order. We had: Ramen Cabbage Salad, Mac Salad, Kalua Pork, Island
Style Fried Chicken, Lau Lau and Char Siu Fried Rice plus a few
tubs of Teriyaki Sauce for those who wanted something less foreign.
;P Then we hightailed it to Mission Viejo for the party. The house
where the party was at was situated near Lake Mission Viejo and
the owners of the house decorated it beautifully. I was really green
with envy.
When
it came time to eat, I had to stand there explaining to everyone
what the dishes were. The majority of the folks there never had
Hawaiian food/plate lunch style so they were kind of surprised to
see food that they didn't recognize nor ever heard of before. But
it seemed like everyone liked it. Afterall, who doesn't??? I think
most people were apprehensive about the Lau Lau since it was wrapped
up in the ti leaves but once they tasted it, they were sold. But
the funny thing was, the teriyaki sauce was the first to go! ;P

Although
it was a baby shower, the guests spent most of their time playing
pool, croquet, socializing, drinking and decorating these cute baby
clothes for the baby to wear! My mom, in the cool ass muumuu above,
was decorating one and she won the prize for her design. Here are
some others decorated by the guests below (mine is the one on the
bottom right hand corner):

These
two cuties are twin daughters of my brother's college roomate (way
back when). They were really the cutest things at the party! :)
At first they were shy and hid but once I broke out the digicam,
they totally struck a pose! They're gonna be heartbreakers when
they grow up.

They
also had a younger sister who was a doll too! See! Now before you
go thinking that I have baby fever or something strange like that,
I don't. But cute girls are cute girls and what's not to love about
that?? ;) Check out the older sister twirling in her white dress
in the background. Cute!

I didn't
realize that you can make out like a bandit at a baby shower. I
haven't attended too many in my life time. Most of my friends aren't
married, let alone have children (NOT that it's bad or anything)
but I've never been to a serious baby shower outside of work. It
took them a long time getting through all the pretty pastel wrapping
and stuff. Probably one of the neatest presents there was the baby's
first piece of mail in her name.....it was a bond bought for her
by the parent's friend.

And
here's a photo of the parents to be. Yup, it's my brother and sil
(sis-in-law).
I'm
going to be 'Auntie Winnie' in about 6 weeks. =:o

And
the yummy whipped cream with fruit cake for my niece to be, Jasmine.
Hope she enjoyed it. :)

Ah
I can rest now because I'm beat!
I'm
out.
