ramen-ya
august 15, 2002

anyone who knows me, will know that i do NOT like to eat ramen. there are of course exceptions to this rule such as:

1. cold ramen [hiyashi chuka style]
2. korean instant ramen [kimchee, kal gug su etc.]
3. cha chiang mien [gotta love that]
4. cold noodles with shredded chicken and peanut sauce [chinese style of course]

but aside from these four, i do not like to eat ramen. hence i'm not a huge soup noodle fan. and some of you might find that odd because that's so characteristically un-chinese.

truth be told, i'm really more of a rice girl. maybe that's why i'm shaped more like a musubi than a long thin noodle. :p

but mr. ramen is a place that i go to in little tokyo once in a while when k manages to convince me to go with him. i have to admit that their cha(r)-shu-men is very good but the biggest shock this time around was that they remodeled the damn place. ok, it's been awhile since i've been there but what a positive remodeling effort it was because before, it really was this hole in the wall place with plastic table covers as their main decor. uh....yeah. i'm dead serious.

although i don't eat ramen, i did order a bento box (see above) with tori karaage (fried chicken bites), hiya-yakko (cold tofu), mixed sald with miso dressing and rice. simple and tasty while k opted for the miso veggie and meat ramen. ew. but then again, i'm not the one eating it. :p "it wasn't nearly as good as the cha(r)-shu-men", the noodle freak says.

the good thing about eating in ramen-yas is that there are always magazines and mangas to flip through. there's girly fashion stuff, tabloids screaming the latest headlines of sordid affairs and the one k is looking at below is the men's fashion mag. i used to really love those mags too because there was just a lot nice eye-candy, albeit a lil bit on the thin side but nonetheless nice visuals. ;) k of course checks it out for the clothes and shoes. and especially for the jeans since you all know how much he loves jeans from japan. :p btw, they have all these rorschach ink blots on the wall which i found were rather amusing being housed in a ramen-ya.

I'm out.
