happy meal
june 01, 2002
went to have some tasty japanese food on thursday night to mainly eat and on a tiny sidenote, to celebrate our meeting day whatchamacallit. but, it was more to eat because we seem to crave japanese food every 8 hours or so. i ordered the set dinner, shown above, which consisted of tempura fried shrimp and vegetables, tuna tataki (seared tuna) in a dipping sauce with marinated seaweed, sakana nitsuke and some aemono. eating this style of japanese food has got to be my favorite because it's just like eating homemade stuff and not your generic teriyaki beef with california roll special. NOT that there's anything wrong with that but i'm usually more in the mood for this.
K likes to eat the chirashi sushi because he just likes raw stuff all the time. here's this particular restaurant's version of it for $12. not bad at all for the quality and quantity and freshness. you may not be aware of this, but it takes a lot of cooperation from my fellow diners to not dig in and eat before i snap the photo. but over the years, friends and family have all gotten used to my strange quirks and have indulged my food photography even though they don't really take my site seriously. :p anyway, having japanese food is always one of my faves, not only because i love it but also because this was the type of food we ate during our first meal together. oh yeah, i'm so damn sentimental.
new tunes are being happily played out of my ghetto boombox since yesterday afternoon when i received dealerships two cds in the mail. if you're not aware of who they are, you should be because they are really talented and their music is awesome. [i don't like using the much overused socal word "awesome" too much but i can't think of a better word at this time] this trio from the bay area played a show here in LA earlier this year but i wasn't able to make it. but you can check out their music and their show schedule on their website for more info. some of their music actually reminds me a hint of one of my fave j-bands, date of birth, but of course they have their own very unique sound as well. nothing quite like a nice sunny saturday afternoon listening to some very good tunes. and let's not forget to mention the one and only umami tsunami is 1/3 of this trio. :)
if you can't get to hawaii this summer, i guess the next best thing would be to check out the polynesian paradise performance at the hollywood bowl this summer on june 30th. Keali'i Reichel, The Brothers Cazimero and others will be there performing. check out the website for more details. aloha!
