moonroof view of my red hair (!)

i got my free herbal essences true intense hair color in #48.7 passion berry a few weeks back but didn't have a chance to color my hair until a couple days ago. being that my hair has already been lightened by years of coloring, the results were pretty much what i thought it would be. i'm pleased with the color because i can never get this shade at the salon, even if i was forking over $50+ for coloring. but the question is, how long will this last? the last time i colored it, i used #49 beyond cherry and i don't believe the results were as red as this. luckykat informed me that lillian used hers as well but unfortunately didn't get the results she wanted. since she didn't post a photo, i don't really know what her hair color looks like on her jet black hair but it shouldn't be nearly as intense as mine. [updated: here's a photo of lillian from an updated post! :) she looks great in that color!]

anyway, i should say for those who've never colored your hair before, and want to do it for the very first time, you should get it done professionally or if you're doing it at home, you should stick with less intense colors because it is rather shocking the first time you look in the mirror. and let's not forget to mention the mess in the bathtub you make as well - can we say slaughterhouse? i've been coloring my hair for years at a salon but because it costs way too much to maintain that way, i've only begun to color it on my own recently at home with the inspiration of kristin. i hope for the rest of you who got the free sample that i mentioned on my blog awhile back, you'll get the results that you want. if you don't want it this intense, try leaving it on for less than the required time. as for me, what color should i do next month? #49.4 red desert? ;)

got the chance to meet up with linda again today. yay! i'm so glad we're making it a habit to meet up, because as i've mentioned before, we have so much in common and we never seem to run out of topics to chat about. sometimes, i don't know where the time goes when i'm with her since we ramble on and on about this and that. the time passes by much too fast and before we know it, it's 4-5 hours later and time to say goodbye *tear*. ;) it's funny, every time we get together, we seem to find out more and more things that we have in common. for example, we were both talking about those parties we went to during our high school years where "oh l'amour" by erasure was the most popular song in addition to all those eurodisco stuff by gazebo. egads! and then, we shared about web designing, husbands, in laws, parents, new restaurants, marriage, real life friends, speaking pidgin, bachelorette parties and so on. i always look forward to meeting up with her because i know i can really be "myself" around her and that she's a great listener who i'm comfortable sharing a lot of things with. i'm really lucky to have gotten to know linda, who happens to be another online journalist in LA and who's become a really great friend of mine in real life. and don't think i do all the talking either because linda really talks a lot as well, aside from what you may have read about her. ;)

sometimes in LA, with the abundance of different types of cuisines we have, it's hard to narrow down where to eat. but we decided on some taiwanese "small eats" at a local taiwanese deli place. since i'm never without my camera, i snapped a few shots of what we ate and of linda in the mirror as well (see above) and linda, did you know that guy in the mirror behind you had a major staring problem? here's what we ate while we talked story. :)

pork potage with rice -- a thickened soup with bamboo shoots, pork, mushrooms and such with rice inside.

linda had the *gulp* chitterlings potage with noodle -- similar to what i had except that it's with pork intestines and noodles. yeah, i know what you're thinking too. ;)

stinky tofu. we both agreed that it wasn't stinky enough for our tastes. you dip the stinky fried tofu into a garlicky sweetened soy sauce concoction. yum!

how can we not have the infamous taiwanese shaved ice for dessert to round out our taiwanese small eats meals? linda had *the* most taiwanese combo underneath all that ice and condensed milk: taro, large red beans and peanuts (that's kinda like what fishpimp also gets). while i had the grass jelly, barley and what i like to call the 'pepto bismo guys' - which are actually pink and white chewy rice dumplings. nothing quite like "tsua-bing" on a sunny friday afternoon before a long weekend.

afterwards, we paid a short visit to the korean beauty supply place to check out all their hair color products and then we hit the local chinese bakery for some yummy baked breads. a really perfect afternoon all in all! :) to check out linda's version of our afternoon together, read it here.

hope you're all having a great weekend so far! and yay for an all 80's weekend on the local radio station.

I'm out.
