oahu 0902-01
september 08, 2002
i was in o'ahu for 6 days. yay! but i've returned to la. boo! and unlike my travelogues in the past where i've written long long entries about every little fuckin detail of the trip, this will be mainly photos and whatever excerpts i feel like sharing. things may/will not be in chronological order so bear with me and my random thoughts.
above: is a snap of the breaking dawn in los angeles on the way to the airport. goodbye smog! *yawn* *cough*
there's nothing quite like sitting on the "right" side of the plane - which was actually the left side of the plane, where you can get the first glimpse of the islands from above. i don't know about you but i nearly always feel like tearing up when i see this.
more views of the islands from seat 32a. above is a photo of hanauma bay from way up high. and below is the sweeping view of diamond head, kapiolani park, waikiki and neighborhoods nearby. if only that damn airplane wing wasn't in the way, you'd be able to see more of the crystal blue waters.
what initially started out as a 2 person girl trip between fishpimp and i ended up to be an entourage of X number of people when they found out we were going. and although we all had a very enjoyable time, i didn't sleep much nor get any much needed rest during this trip. it could be because i had to share a bed, which is something i'm not accustomed to. as their local tourguide :p i set up an itinerary before the trip in addition to making dinner reservations as well and was glad that we adhered to most of it during our trip. i ended up skipping out on the diamond head hike but that's mainly due to me only getting about 3-5 hours of sleep per night and constantly waking up at 5am like a fuckin zombie.
when i first opened the door to our room, i nearly fainted when i saw the view from our lanai. i don't think we nearly screamed loud enough for the entire hotel to hear. :p our room was on the 14th floor of the sheraton waikiki hotel and was on the very end of one of its corners, so we got the entire sweeping view of waikiki and diamond head. a big thanks to zipper for everything. :)
don't believe me? check out fishpimp getting in some photo time from the lanai.
for our first meal there, we opted for the quick, easy, painless ramen meal at ezogiku. the food was not very good, especially the hiyashi chuka (shown below) but all we wanted was a quick meal and to get back and maximize our tan time. :p if you are wondering, that is me closest to you, sliced off in the photo. :p i did notice that alot, if not all, of the ramen shops in waikiki are run by chinese folks. the lady did a double take when i thanked her for the food in cantonese as i was leaving. of course that's because i also thanked them in japanese as well. :p
