oahu 0902-03

i'm really tired from work today but let me make an effort to update anyway. it's not easy getting used to working full time again but in a way it's kinda challenging to wake up at 6am regularly. :p going back to work is especially hard when i look at photos such as these, taken at hanauma bay. makes me think that the last thing i want to do is be inside a cubicle for 9 hours a day under fluorescent lighting. :(
i have a secret to share. this was my very first time snorkeling at hanauma bay. although i've been to oahu a gazillion times, touristy places like this doesn't appeal to me much. so i've never had much desire to go. but this time, since we had first, second and third time visitors in my group -- touristy stuff it is. and with some rather inexperienced swimmers in our entourage, it was best to go to a gentler place such as hanauma bay for snorkeling.

so did i enjoy it?
well, it was all good i suppose except that it got really difficult to snorkel at certain points since the reefs were very high skimming my chest by mere inches. and the fact that i didn't have fins didn't help either. :p i was too chinesey cheap to actually rent some. but being the expert *cough* swimmer that i am, i didn't have any problems making my way through the water. *louder cough*

luckily we got there early that day and made use of our time before the masses arrived with their coolers of food and drinks. since i was anticipating the worst, we finished up our day by 10:30am and headed over to rainbow drive-in for some lunch. i ordered the mixed plate while others opted for the pork long rice not knowing what it was. i think they were secretly disappointed that it was rice vermicelli noodles with pork and celery in it served up with two scoops of rice and mac salad. the mixed plate as expected had grilled beef and chicken alongside the mandatory two scoops of rice and mac salad. unfortunately, no digicam photos of the rainbow drive inn experience to share. boo. and it's really unfortunate because there were some really fine looking policemen dining there. which leads me to wonder how come the policemen in los angeles don't nearly look as good as the asian ones in hawaii? let me stop here before i break out some cheesy handcuff jokes that will make all of you roll your eyes at me. :p

the colors at hanauma bay are really very nice. but then it depends on whether or not the sun is hitting down on it. early in the morning, it's quite un-sunny so i really didn't feel very tropical-ish until i felt i was sizzling and crackling. :p hanauma bay now has a visitor area at the top where you have to watch a 7 minute movie about preserving the aquatic wildlife. and they even offer a *tram* to take you down to the bay for 50 cents and on the way back up, they charge $1.00. rip off. :p
before entering the movie screening area, i overhead these haoles ripping on the locals behind their backs. they were saying something about how it was "too early for the locals to function" and how they aren't very "smart". wtf does that mean? hello? don't they know that many of the locals they are talking about are actually caucasian as well? but in their context, they were specifically referring to this one person of asian descent. damn baak laap saap. if you want to know what that means, email me.
