now that the wedding shower invites are sent out and done *dusting off hands* - i wanted to show you guys what i did for the two couples. the one on top is for sriracha's bridal shower and the one below is for leggy girl and superman's combined wedding shower.
i know a few of you have written and asked me about them and were curious to know what i did, so here they are. they aren't really as creative or detailed as you may think but i like the hand drawn illustrations a lot and find them cute, whimsical, clean and fun. and i really didn't want them to be too serious or stuffy. although i like experimenting with all those fancy papers and various methods of packaging, i just like a single sheet of heavy cardstock (65 lb or above) to print on with the basic info stated on them. if it was the actual wedding invite, it would be much different i think. but because these are for their showers, i had more creative licensing to do what i want without consulting with them. :x muhahahahah!

as i mentioned previously, i was kind of worried that the two brides would not like what i drew, but it turns out that they approved of the final results as it was drawn and done based on what i thought they would like.
for sriracha's invite, i just drew a very simple line drawing of her with her back to us. her signature red hair was to be the main focal point and the bouquet was an added for a bit of color to keep it from being too stark. sriracha's fiance liked this more than her i think. maybe because it's just so personalized.
for leggy girl's invite, i wanted to capture the both of them since they are always holding hands and very lovey dovey (insert nausea here). as this was going to be a combined shower, it would be ideal to have the both of them on the invite instead of singling out only her. obviously, this isn't drawn in the exact likeness of them or anything (no shit) but i was kind of fed up with seeing all the invites out there on the market that had ONLY blonde hair and blue eyes for the illustrations. i'm sorry, i just can't convince myself to buy those no matter how much other people may not care. because...i fucking care about little details like this. and i wanted two people with black hair and black eyes.

i probably had the most fun, as an afterthought, drawing the little geta wooden shoes and kung fu shoes for leggy girl's invite. i had thought of this idea a long time ago but never put the thought down on "paper" but the end result was exactly what i wanted. they liked it so much that they wanted to add it onto the invite as well and so i placed it on the bottom as a sort of "closure" to the invite and also added it on the directions card too. i just hope the guests enjoy the invites as much as i do. :p but of course knowing guys - they will probably toss it in the trash afterwards.
after this experience, i've kind of piqued my interest in doing more of these types of illustrations for fun and possibly for future invites or stationary. but i should really invest in a wacom tablet to do my drawings because it's nearly impossible to draw with a mouse.
