late summer skies
august 22, 2003

the skies were really red this week but even more vibrant when lomofied.
.. .. ..
i've been neglecting my journal this week because i've been devoting my time to my significant other a.k.a. work. :p so many projects all coming down at the same time. and i'm also interviewing some people for a job as well. i love it that my boss doesn't even tell me we're hiring and then asks me in the middle of my work "do you have time to do an interview for me? i'd like to get your opinion of a candidate."
so i'm totally unprepared mentally to ask the correct questions and nor am i exactly dressed properly either. but either way, the candidate turned out to be extremely spacey. she was from one of the beach cities here in LA and had a pamela anderson look about her even though she was probably nearing 50. i wondered how she got called back for a second interview. and then i understood when she took of her suit jacket. the hr guy was probably too focused on her big guns. :p the weird part was that she took off her jacket and then kinda thrusted her chest at me and kept on fingering her neckline. i'm wondering if she tries that same move on both men and women.
she talked really breathey and s l o w. it was like she had a couple martinis and a vicodin before the interview. she seemed almost too calm. i felt like smacking her to wake her up or to make her talk faster. the best part was when she walked in, she had one of those black and white mead composition books with WIDE rule that we all used as a kid tucked near her louis vuitton backback (probably a fake). i don't know about you guys but when you have only 1 chance to make a first impression at an interview, DO NOT and i repeat, DO NOT bring a mead composition notebook. you might as well just have carried a hello kitty lunchbox with you.
and also, isn't there a rule that you write a thank you letter to everyone you meet for an interview - not the just the people with the big titles or the hr manager? i always follow up with a thank you letter to every single person i talked to - even if you think they aren't important - they can very well make that make it or break it decision with the boss. just like when i walked back to the my desk, my boss asked me what i thought and i said "she seems too spacey and doesn't show that true fire in her personality to want this job" and so he told me to tell her that he won't be meeting her afterwards. oops.
i'm not the authority on interviews but aren't there just some basics that should be common sense? and why don't women with really long hair in not so great condition just tie it back or up during the interview? they would look so much neater and less disheveled. and please don't bring a backpack with water stains on it either.
