not cheers but...
march 27, 2005

once upon a time, i used to frequent a tiny sushi bar where i got to know the owners pretty well. i ate there for many years and it was kinda like my cheers bar - except instead of beer and nuts, they served beer and sushi. then one day, the owners decided to sell their business to another japanese couple. i bid farewell to the original owners 2.5 years ago but i still frequent their restaurant from time to time under the new ownership.
fast forward to this past week, i received a letter in the mail from the original owners informing me of the grand opening of their new restaurant, anjo. of course, this meant that i had to go check it out and get my fill on their amazing tuna tataki salad that i missed so much. :9

there's always something familiar and comforting about going to a place where everyone knows you and you have a history with. although i have to be honest and say that their food isn't high end japanese cuisine, the food has got a good homestyle japanese taste to it. and the owner and sushi chef can still make a mean tuna tataki salad in addition to a full range of sushi/sashimi dishes. the decor is rather spartan and on the zen side with seating for about 25+ diners? at first glance, this looks like a teriyaki take out joint but it's much more than that so don't let the looks fool ya.

it's nice to see them back and i now have another place to eat at - even though it's a bit farther than where they used to be.

fishpimp was so cool to get me one of my favorite snacks - dried cuttlefish from champion. champion is one of those chains selling chinese snacks that have beef/pork jerky, dried fishies and cuttlefish in a variety of flavors. i haven't had this snack of choice in a long long while since i overindulged in a host of things last memorial day weekend and got food poisoning. therefore, everything associated with that weekend, i've kept at bay - cuttlefish being one of them.
but she got the me the type that is sweet and all rolled up in a scroll. now, i just have to ration it and make it last.

i know you would secretly sing along to this song if you heard it right now.
