meating E for lunch
april 01, 2006

when people find out i have a website, they don't really understand per se, what an integral part of my life this is/has become. a lot of people think i'm part of that trendy blogging community and that it's just some passing phase. generally speaking, most of my friends and others who do not write online, don't really understand this site.

i was talking to E about a writer's group over our 3 hour lunch and he mentioned that i have my "blog" that i write to. i was kind of blown away by his comment because he is one of the few who recognizes the importance of writing. and just the act of writing, irregardless of the forum, the audience, the subject.

and then it got me thinking....yeah, you can say this is a place to write to an audience but is it really serious writing? i mean, does anyone take it as seriously as i do? it's not like being a published author or something you get known for.

i know i've expressed it before but one of my dreams is to be a writer one day. maybe some food writing and travel writing? who knows.

onto more interesting things.....had lunch w/ E. it's been a helluva long time since i've seen him. i don't know why it's so hard to get together with friends these days. maybe living in LA doesn't help when everyone is at least 30 minutes away. but i try, even though sometimes time doesn't permit.

^ god, i love a mid-day beer

i'm always more than happy to go to korea town to meet with E as he knows what i like to eat and i'm always ecstatic to try out new places. plus, he's always too overly generous to treat me all the time. and i should add the fact that TGILW likes E the best out of all of my male friends. you other guys reading this, don't hate. :p

i love having korean barbeque with friends and bantering away about our lives. there's always a lot to catch up on with what's going on in our lives. sometimes, emails just take too much work to talk about things in detail. so what's better than smoke getting in your eyes, clothes smelling like you've coming out of a burning house and having an ice cold beer with some ttuk bok ssam? i shared a lot with E over our lunch. he's one of those guys who knows a lot more about me than all the others. sometimes it's just a comfort level you find with a certain person. plus, he indulges me in my kung fu talk.

we met up at soot bul guirim 2 for some all you can eat bbq. at $14.99 per person, it was a good deal. unlike the typical korean bbq, here you ask the waitresses to bring out the meat for you based on what you want. so there's no meat sitting there in bins waiting for you to dish up. we ordered the chadol baegi and sam gyup sal as our first round. they provided the ttuk but no radish slices. the panchan wasn't very impressive, nor was the deng jang chigae. but i did like the salad and if you're there for meat, you got it. PLUS they use the charcoal grils instead of gas flame so you really get that super tasty smoky effect in your food. your hair. your clothes. every single pore. :p

i reeked for the rest of the day and succumbed to washing my hair when i got home.

^ E being a good sport everytime we meet up and letting me go all paparazzi on him. sorry E but you know me and cameras.

^ tongue on the left and beef brisket on the right.

^ our final round was chicken and kalbi.

i did notice the plates of meat getting smaller and smaller as we went into each round. but i guess that's how they control over-excess and waste of meat. hell, as long as i can keep ordering food, it's fine by me. overall, the meat was pretty good but the tongue was a little tough. everything else was good and i would go back again but dressed in something i can burn afterwards. haha.
