project DOMO
april 03, 2006

it's obvious i'm not an architect. and no wonder why i never got accepted to the art center either (not that i could ever afford it in the first place OR have the talent). but here is a crude and dirty version of what my future house will be like.
it's been a LONG time comin' baby.
i've been keeping this kinda quiet to the majority of the people out there because nothing was set in stone until the plans were approved by the county of los angeles. and now over 1 year of review and revisions, it's been approved!
i honestly didn't let myself think much about this project, the decor, the design, the color, the furniture etc until things were more solid. no use getting myself all worked up over nothing if it didn't pan out. and even now as i write this, i'm wondering if i'm a bit premature announcing this to the world. but if it doesn't work out, then i'm putting a really nice yard with ping pong tables. and dare i say....a badminton net? if that didn't scream fobishness, i don't know what does.
i know you're all wondering where the hell am i going to build this crudely drawn house....it's actually going to be situated on my side yard. it's going to be attached via a hallway to the old house (see the coral color thing up there?). it will be a two story structure totaling roughly 1300 sq feet.
right now, nothing has been done yet because of the rainy season but once the grading is done and the foundation put it, i'm hoping that it will be completed by the end of summer. and then that's a whole other thing to contend with - furnishing and decor.
but oh yes, i do have my preferences folks and in recent weeks, i've only begun to really look at all the catalogs and books for ideas. i am quite anal in fact about my own decor when it comes to having my own home. and as this home building saga continues, you can follow along and see what i have chosen. you never realize there's so much to decide on: flooring, wall color, furniture color, tiles etc. until you have to make decisions.
hopefully i won't go insane by the end of the project.
stay tuned for updates on the project that will be known as: DOMO [design on my own or domicile on my own]. i was going to call it house on my own but then the acronym would not be very nice and i'm sensitive like dat to those who visit here at ye olde aiyah abode. i kinda like BOMO too [build on my own] but i'm not really rolling up the sleeves and pouring concrete myself, so that would be a fabrication no?
well, as a good friend told me as i begin this journey..."have patience". and he surely is a veteran at this so i will take heed.
[note to self: must use the wacom tablet more often as to not draw like a 5 year old sniffing glue]
