surprise!

earlier this week, TGILW made me change dinner plans with another group of girlfriends because he wanted to have a quiet pre-birthday dinner alone last night. i guess with everything else on my mind, i didn't really question it that much but i had a hunch. of course by the time saturday night rolled around, i didn't remember anything and thought i was just going to have dinner alone with him. needless to say, he pulled off this surprise party and really got me fooled.
i was pretty surprised to see 8 of my friends there at the restaurant to
celebrate my birthday. even CM drove up from san diego to be there. the location
was at greenfield churrascaria
in west covina for a night of brazilian barbeque or what i should really affectionately
call, meat parade.
i was only able to snap a few shots before the owner or manager of the place told me i couldn't take photos. i chided her and said i'm taking photos of my friends since it's my birthday party. :p do they think i'm going to steal their ideas of food or something? wtf?
anyway, the food was pretty good. they had a large selection of the cold salads and hot side dishes. their selection of skewered meats were plentiful and flavorful. i was impressed at the taste really. but i was really disappointed in their service. the waitress didn't refill our drinks nor did she come by to see if we needed anything. she was in essence, nowhere to be found. and of course the aforementioned scolding from the owners didn't leave me too happy either. but hell, it's my surprise birthday dinner and i wasn't going to let it bother me.
i took my new camera out to the dinner as well thinking i was going to take photos of food but in the end, took pictures of all the friends who i didn't know were going to be there. man, i'm loving this camera more and more with each passing second. i was an absolute psycho with my camera in hand. i hardly even ate because i was taking so many photos.
when my cake arrived, i was quite taken aback by the BIG 3-6 number candles. it was kind of a shock as i didn't expect anything like that to be on my cake. in my freaked out state, i asked fishpimp to switch the numbers around to 6-3. i dunno, i think it still has to do with this whole turning 36 thing. it's a scary number to me for some reason. but who knows...maybe it will be a good year in the end for me?
in the middle of dinner, TGILW insisted we start playing this one game. it has to do with naming a famous non-fictional person and by using the first alphabet of the person's last name, the next person needs to think of another famous person. it was kind of fun and we went round and round naming people. i think it would definitely be more "interesting" if we were drinking and on the verge of a drunken stupor or something. but we were pretty much drunk on MEAT as the waiters constantly brought us more and more food.
i had a really good time seeing my friends again. it's been nearly 6-7 weeks since i've seen some of them and we were catching up on everything that's been happening. the biggest news of all is the ring on a certain person's ring finger. i'm very happy for her. and the ring is really unique and beautiful in its classic simplicity. can't wait to hear about the wedding plans - whenever they begin to start planning it that is. i'm of course voting for a tropical destination wedding.
but that's just...me and my selfish wants. ;)
i got some really wonderful gifts as well. it was gift certificate heaven: banana republic, target, barnes and noble. in addition i got a smashbox lipgloss set and a pair of plumeria earrings from na hoku! my friends (who didn't know i love na hoku) went to their southern california outpost in glendale galleria and got me this simple and cute pair of plumeria earrings thinking that i would probably love it since i love all things hawaiian. they were so right.

wooo..it's been a really long but fun day filled with friends and food all the way.
