kakkoii girls
january 11, 2006
i was looking for something in my computer room today when i stumbled across a box that i haven't opened in years. upon opening it, it was filled with a lot of things that i kept over the years because i just plain...like them.
one of the items was a japanese magazine called "hi fashion", dated october 1993. i used to buy a ton of japanese magazines because i was so enamored of their colorful eye candy on every page. but i always gave them away after i finished reading them. but i remember picking up this particular magazine back then because as i flipped through the pages, i literally was entranced by this photo shoot of these 3 girls.
there was something about them that spoke to my 23 year old self at the time and man, did i want to emulate their look. they look tough, cool, fierce and yet still feminine. plus they are asian. of course i know it's all make up, stylists, location, the talent of the photographer and they probably aren't really like this in real life. but then again, that's what fashion shoots are all about. a form of art that pulls you in with the ability to dream.
somehow, looking at this magazine again makes me feel like i'm 23 again. and i still think they look cool.
thanks to my new scanner, here's a few pages for your viewing pleasure.

^ this was the photo that sold me. i think it's because it was so different
from all those sugary girly-girl layouts i typically see in j-mags.

^ the one on the right is a little too sweet looking but maybe she's packing
a switchblade. looks could kill you know...

^ i remember when those long skirts were in.

^ i used to have doc martens like these. i miss them. i remember this look
too.
