^ what am i making?
one of the perks about being homebound these days is that i cook a lot. perhaps that's the only thing that really interests me aside from watching dvds, reading magazines, and playing with snowbie.
read: hermit.
but in addition to really liking to cook but never having the time to, it's a good reason to eat in and watch what i eat. as much as going out is great, it's not always the healthiest choice. at least i know what i put into my food at home. and during this recovery period, i guess that's most important. plus, i'm just cranky to go out because i look like...shit. and i feel sooooooooo fat.
so i've been perusing a lot of cookbooks and online recipes these days - collecting a plethora of recipes that i want to try eventually. and it's actually starting that fire i once had for cooking. i mean, working full time and doing kung fu all the time doesn't lend itself to a lot of downtime to cook good stuff. but i've been taking advantage of being at home these days and trying out some new things.
today, i made myself kalua pork with some poke and a green salad for dinner. the kalua pork was easy peasy but made the house feel like an incinerator due to the 450 degree oven setting. but it turned out excellent - juicy, perfectly salted with smoky flavors and fork tender. the poke was great combined with ogo, shiso, hawaiian salt, chili flakes and sesame oil. simple yet took me thousands of miles away to hawaii. at least during dinner time. :p

i made a lot of other things this week but didn't get to take any photos. will showcase them the next time i cook em: nikujaga, teriyaki tofu, cold okra dish, shrimp with sweet and spicy sauce.
