at the rodeo
july 15, 2006

today, being one of the hottest days of the year thus far, was not the day to be spent walking around outdoors without air conditioning. what the hell was i thinking? i actually didn't want to go out but i had to pick up a bag that was repaired recently and they had informed me it was ready the day before i went into surgery. so before they decided to trash it and resell it on ebay or something, i figured i better get my ass out there to pick it up.

being that today was the first day i really "went out" since my surgery, i got winded really quickly. it could be the heat, the throngs of tourists swarming about beverly hills or the fact that i'm not fully 100% yet. everything was working against me really but somehow i made it thru the day lookey-looing a model shoot taking place on rodeo, all the window display eye candy and just chuckling at the tons of the tourist about. while living in LA, i tend to forget that beverly hills is a "tourist destination". and don't tell me asians are the only ones with cameras looking all touristy because i tell you, there were plenty of non-yellow skinned people looking quite...foppish.

miuccia prada was having an exhibit called waist down at the prada store. it was of all these twirly skirts set in underground displays. since i was surrounded by tourists flashing their cameras everywhere, i figured i might as well join in and look the part. :p

do you see the skirt in the photo above? funky.

my destination point was at LV to retrieve my repaired bag. it only cost me $70 to fix and it looks absolutely brand new. for some reason, the edges on one of my old bags was cracking and the canvas fibers were peeking out. at one point, my bag looked like it was growing fuzz on the edges. but the repair department resealed and reglazed all the edges and now, it's practically brand new. i love it. i should have gotten it done a few years ago. now i can use that bag again.
i actually always refer to one particular sales person at this LV location. i'm one of those people who really emphasize on finding a good salesperson who will earn their commission. because to me...there's nothing worse than going into a high end shop and planning on buying something but having the worst service because you may not look like a celebrity. i refuse to be treated like shit by the floor people and to have to drop hundreds of dollars on a bag. no way! so there's one gal i look for and she's always a great help even though i usually don't buy. haha. but she knows i'm serious about their stuff and eventually will get something when i crack open the piggy bank or win the lotto.
she was kind enough to give me an inside scoop on the monogram mini line being axed and also an introduction to a new line coming out in the fall called the mini lynn - which is a canvas version of the monogram mini line. she said it will be fab and told me to come back in the fall.
oh my. :p

i ended up going to nike town (of all places in beverly hills) and picked up a new pair of sneakers. i was in dire need of a new pair since the old new balances were really wearing away and i seem to always have foot problems these days. right now, i have some freaky ankle/foot tendonitis thing going on (result of some hardcore antibiotics during surgery & also the lupron injections that i'm on) that's just making my foot all swollen, stiff and tingly. i'm just hoping my achilles will not rupture as that is one of the side effects of the antibiotic they IVed into me during surgery. hope the inflammation will die down soon.
i haven't bought a pair of nikes since i was in my early teens so it's been a long time. i always find nikes to be too narrow and with my gigantic wide peasant foot, nikes usually aren't my friend. but TGILW convinced me to try on this pair of nike shox navina and it turned out to be super comfy. either that or i was really entranced by those little red shox in the heels.
my mom was quite hypnotized by the little shox that she demanded a pair with the springy shox as well.

i am a big big roots fan. i know at least one of you out there is as well! the last time i was in the BH, i saw that they had a store and popped in. i didn't get anything though but vowed to go back again. luckily for me, they had a 50% off sale right now and picked up a few shirts for myself. of course TGILW didn't hold back either and he picked up 2 shirts too. roots has such great quality. my love for roots started back when i got a sweatshirt from my aunt after she came back from a trip to toronto when i was 17. that sweatshirt lasted me 12 years before it fell apart to shreds. when the winter comes again, i'm going back to pick up a sweatshirt for myself. so glad there's a store in LA now. about damn time i say. and love the beaver logo.
no beaver jokes please. :p
