sorry, i've been s _ _ k again. i don't want to type that word anymore because it's just so depressing to always tell people "i'm s _ _ k!" and the worst of course is when people say "are you s _ _ k AGAIN?!"
ah, shut up! it's not like i want to be s _ _ k.
last friday night (before i got s _ _ k), i was invited to a surprise birthday party for S. her husband had planned something over a month ago but we were told to keep our trap shut. about 25 of us convened at cafe bizou in pasadena for a not so quiet dinner. it was my first time there and that place was absolutely rockin. so many people were jammed pack in the main entrance area. and on a cold (read: 40 degree F) evening in LA, no one wants to stand outside and wait. yes, we are cold weather wimps.
as i was one of the first ones there, standing alone and cold...i was so lucky to run into TW whom i met the week prior! what a coincidence! i mean, of all the places we can eat at in LA...we end up in the same restaurant.

i rudely interrupted her dinner with a friend and nudged my way into a nice roomy table for two. at least i got warm and cozy with her by my side. ;) they were nice enough to share a bite of their dinner with me while i waited for the others to show. but it was getting embarassing with my fat ass hanging halfway in the aisle, so i begged goodbye to them and waited outside with the others for the arrival of the birthday girl.

^ J is making fun of me at doing what i do best. Oh...I believe in karma...yes,
I do. :)

S's husband did a really great job of putting together this party. he had a prix fixe menu set up in advance with your selection of a starter course, an entree and a dessert. and flowing champagne, red wine & white wine all night long.

everyone got to start off with a baked mushroom with lobster and salmon ravioli. and then i chose the corn chowder for myself. everything was just so so good!

i decided on the ahi tuna for my entree but only ate half of it because i wasn't too hungry really. it was flanked by 2 shitake raviolis and a side of sauteed spinach.

for dessert, i opted for the flourless chocolate cake while J on the other side of me had the trio of sorbet.

the food at cafe bizou was really above par and one of the better meals i've had in a long time. it's strange to say that i don't get out to eat much these days but the places i go to are always the same...it's good to try something new and experience new dining adventures as always.
especially when you don't have to pick up the tab. :)
