happy 50th birthday to my sister
happy 1st birthday to my niece

thursday night dinner with friends at tasty garden in alhambra tonight. our main mission was to go for their dessert: hong kong waffles aka gai daan jai. i saw that they had it a few weeks back when i went to get take out. i didn't have the time to try it out then so i wanted to come back for it.

the restaurant is somewhat new i guess but they are always crowded and the occupancy is maxed out all the time. we were lucky to secure a table for 6 tonight even though the staff grumbled at us for staying so long. eh, screw them.

the food is pretty good hong kong style food but the service of course could be improved. but then again, it's alhambra so i'm not holding my breathe for improvements in the near future. most of their entrees run $6-9 depending on what you get and they have a good listing of desserts! the dishes i felt were on the small side for the price paid. so that was a disappointment. and plus their women's restroom ran out of toilet paper!

all in all, i would go back but definitely not someplace i would go out of my way to...unless it's for the hk waffles that is. ;)

^ honeyed walnut with shrimp in mayo

^ french style filet mignon cubes

^ ong choy with fu-yue & chili strips

^ salt & pepper calamari

^ steamed black bean sparerib rice in hot pot

^ scallops in xo sauce over steamed tofu

^ the hk waffles aka gai daan jai were so good here. i was impressed! they certainly didn't disappoint.

^ TW should be an ad for hk waffles.

^ certain people don't like my weapon of choice in their face. ;P
