first niece card
december 23, 2007

so i've waited about 6 long years for this but i was so happy to receive my very first card in the mail from my 6 year old niece. i know, hard to believe she's 6 already. i turned her and her sister onto my neighbor, totoro (tonari no totoro) earlier this year and ever since being inducted into the hayao miyazaki world, this has been one of their fave movies ever! we call it our "special movie". i think they both relate to this movie in the sense that there are 2 sisters in this movie and their personalities are oddly similar to them as well. the age difference of the sisters are also about the same as my nieces too so i think they feel an affinity to this movie. besides, who doesn't love totoro?

me: do you tell your friends @ school about totoro?
jas: no..i don't tell them about it.
me: why not?
jas: because i want it to be my own special movie.
me: .....oh ok.

jasmine just turned 6 in november. and guess what i got her? of course her very own totoro! but after getting it online, i decided i should play it safe and order one (a different one) for her sister as well. it was probably one of the best decisions i've ever made. i typically wouldn't buy 2 presents when it's one of their birthdays but knowing the ages they are at and how much they love totoro, it would be best to get each their own to reduce any drama!

but it's obvious here that whatever big sister has, the little one wants as well (even though she has her own). i ordered a larger one for jasmine and a medium sized one for sofia which are slightly different and it seems like they both like them a lot.

anyway, getting back to the initial reason of this entry....after receiving the totoro, jasmine wrote her uncle TGILW and i a nice thank you note and included a drawing as well.

i think i'll save this forever. :)

and yes, she's growing up so fast.
