project DOMO [14]
january 26, 2007

who woulda thought that project DOMO entries would hit update #14? you woulda thought that we would have finished the damn thing by the 14th entry on it no?
but nay....we are still very much into the down and dirty part of project DOMO unfortunately. everytime i think we are closer to getting the innards done, there's something on the outside that needs to be addressed, added on, fixed, touched up, to come back to etc etc etc.
as i mentioned in the previous entries, the architect neglected to plan for a place to house the heater. so to rectify the situation, we had to "add on" to our house by building a small abode for it and the water heater. and the only available space would be in the back of the house.
what this means is having to lay down concrete (again) before the framing guys can come (again) to put up framing for the small shelter. but you gotta do what you gotta do.

since we were laying down concrete for the back of the house, we decided to also lay it down for the entire right side of the house and partially on the left side of the house. this however means that the front of the house is still a dirt trodden piece of crap. but concrete is.....expensive and since we aren't really sure what we're going to do with the front area yet - no use in wasting excess dinero on that portion yet.

in this photo, you can really see the color of the house opposite the main house color. the main house color will eventually be redone when we have enough money recoup. but for now, it's gonna be a wacky looking place until everything is repainted again.
you can also see the color of the roof tiles on the connecting part. i wanted to take a photo of the actual DOMO roof now that it's totally completed but i need to drive somewhere to get a good view of the roof from afar. that will be something i'll have to do soon.

the framing guys have probably been (out of all the contractors) the best crew on our project. alot of the guys have been really good but this crew is really headed by a guy who is really nice, sincere, polite and so damn hardworking! when they did the framing of the house, some of them were even here during sundays!
in the photo above, you can see them begin the framing on the mini abode for the heater + water heater. don't worry, the inspector already approved this minor build to compensate for the architectural hiccup. this crew finished the entire mini abode within 6 hours. no wonder i always buy them lunch when they are here. they also went to help my mom on other parts of the house too! :x
to be honest, we've been supremely lucky to have many good groups working for us. the hispanic crews are i would say, harder working than any of the other groups. the worst guy we have thus far is this mainlander who takes off for lunch and never returns. and sometimes he'll show up when he's not needed. wtf. but there's always one of those in the mix. luckily he's only taking care of the a/c + heating. *gulp* my a/c better be working by the time summer rolls around i tell ya. or else i'll hunt his mainland ass down.

the mini utility abode has been completed to a certain degree now. enough to the point where the heater and plumbing guy can come in to work on their areas. ultimately, the utility abode will be stuccoed and outfited to look somewhat like the rest of DOMO.

in many ways, i'm glad we got to build this extra little bit of space. it's going to be a nice place to store all those excess housing supplies so that it will keep the rest of the house free of brooms, vacuums, swiffers and stuff like that. if only i could make this bigger...i would rent it out for $400/month to some college student. :p

and here's a view of the ducting coming from downstairs into the office closet and snaking its way up the rafters. damn, i had big plans for that far right corner of the closet too. i tell you, this damn ac/heating guy is driving me nuts. luckily he's not here often enough for me to see him. :p
