project DOMO [17]
july 24, 2007

i suppose you all can figure out why (from the previous entry) i haven't updated although i've really wanted to. thanks for all the well wishes. my thumb/wrist is doing better but not 100%. if it doesn't improve in 3 weeks....i'm headed for another surgery again. eesh. what a year it's been.
anyway....
i've been hesitant to write my next project DOMO entry because there has been SO much that has happened already in the past 4 months. it's been an unbelievable process up to now and it's getting so busy since it's at the point where i have to do a lot of hands on decision making.
back when DOMO was being built, things like concrete, framing and stuccoing were not things i really needed to make decisions on. sure stuff like stucco color, roof tile color etc had me making a few decisions but not to the point where i'm at lowe's and home depot every other day and not to the point where my weekends are filled with endless visits to great indoors, ikea, dwr, room and board, home depot expo, crate and barrel, west elm etc (like i'm doing now!). it gets to the point where my eyes are bleeding from looking at interior design stuff. it's fun and all but difficult too. more on this in future domo entries.
although i know this is something everyone has been waiting anxiously on and i for one really needed to get this down onto virtual "paper" for posterity's sake, just the thought of going back and posting all that has happened in the previous few months seems so daunting.
but.i.must.do.it.
yes.i.must.
i can kick myself for not being more diligent about my DOMO entries. all other entries can wait but DOMO has turned into a beast.

but let's backtrack and start from where we left off in project DOMO [16] entry. in my last entry, DOMO drywall was just freshly installed and i was going through the process of picking out paint colors. i'm one of those anal people who believe in buying those single quarts of paints and seeing how they look on the walls before committing to doing the whole room in it. since my painter uses dunn edwards, i made about 8-10 trips there buying a few quarts each time.

the insanity of colors got a bit out of control and i ended up with 28 quarts of paints before finally settling on the final 6 colors. when you have this sort of faux interior designer vision (as i obviously in some demented state have) in your mind about what you want your rooms to look like....you kinda approach it where you're dead set on certain colors. of course once those colors get tested on the walls....you start to change your "vision" a bit. some colors ended up not being too visually friendly while some changed the entire mood of the room into something i didn't want. whatever the reason was...i spent a lot of time and money on testing out paint colors.

because i didn't want to have a house with plain white walls, it took a bit of time to narrow it down. some things i conceded and agreed to not do in certain rooms because it would have made people cringe and honestly, not everyone has the same tastes as me so i cannot expect them to accept it with open arms. in fact there are still some room colors that i know many of you will not like but do i care? no..because i have a "vision" of what it's going to look like in the end with furniture, lighting, art work etc. and i'm sure it will look great.

above and below: the most difficult room to decide on - the office. hence the numerous color swatches painted in this room. if this isn't insanity, i dunno what is!?

finally after spending about a good 4 weeks deciding on colors, the painters came and got the place painted with primer and then i requested an "orange peel" type of finish on the walls. i liked that it added extra dimension to the walls plus i get another layer of protection sprayed onto the walls as well. look to see how pretty and pristine white my little DOMO is!

i have plenty more white room photos but i think you get the gist of it and it would only bore you to pieces. up next....the final room colors!
